hello jhon simon I believe you chose an excellent extract and used other films to support acting roles and to make references to other genres. Your transitions flowed very well, and you demonstrated a proper knowledge of the film. You stuttered a little bit towards 4 minutes but you were able to clarify great points using cinematography. I thought it was very well done, voice was a bit monotone lol, but other than really well done! :DDDD
Hi Jhon. Good commentary. Your connections to other works was very detailed and you did a good job on the sociocultural aspects and influences. There was good commentary on the cinematography of the excerpt as well. However you seemed to lead us through the excerpt scene by scene, which had great analysis, but I felt it didn't relate much to the bigger scheme of things such as director's intention. You showed a lot of film knowledge however, and you really displayed proper knowledge of the film. I'd give it a 22/25
Hey Jhon. Nice commentary. I liked that you began your presentation by talking about the socio-cultural importance of the film. You provided good background information on the director of the film and the actor who played Arbogast. Your analysis of the importance of the size of the house was really interesting. This is where you applied your knowledge of cinematography and what role it played in creating the emotional connections that it did. One thing I would say is that you should have used more film terminology. For example, you said "blurred background." If you had said "shallow focus" or "out of focus" or anything along those lines, you would have gotten extra points from the examiner. There is some film terminology, but adding more would have made it even better. You talked about the theme of the movie as well and how it symbolizes murder. Not only that, you applied that to the horror/thriller genre and previous films by the composer. I found this analysis very interesting. Good Job.
Good background on the film Jhon. Not clear where the extract takes place in the overall narrative. Good background on Abergast's background. Horror genre conventions could be a organized and explained using more detailed film language. Be careful not to focus on too much plot summary but rather detail the evidence from the extract that helps explain Hitchcock's intent and style. Review language around film sound effects and score. Good attention to the leitmotif technique in Herman's composition. Keep up the good work.
