Visuals: How well do the visuals of the project support the intended narrative? The student does a really good job in choice of visuals and pointing out important factors in scenes. He walked the audience through both important and interesting scenes and specifically explain why these visuals were important and how they relate to realism. Language: How was appropriate film language used in the analysis? Are they critically discussing filmic techniques as part of the doc? The student uses an good amount of film language to further support his analysis such as the first scene that he chooses with the protagonist with one constant shot of her face, he provides detail in explaining cinematography and mise en scene and how this aids in portraying the helplessness of the character in space. The student also relates this back to realism and the impact it leaves on the audience which further support his thesis. Narrator's Delivery: Describe the theatrical quality of the voiceover. Are they entertaining, perceptive, or humorous and how? The narrator’s delivery could use a little work and the stumbling on words could have been fixed in the edit, but these were only minor and few mistakes. Sometimes during scenes the characters were talking while the student was narrating, which could be distracting at times. However the student spoke overall clearly and was easy to understand.
I really liked your topic on Realism and how it adds an element of reality in the movie and creates this specific tone/emotion in the story. I feel like the running commentary was well thought out but I sometimes found myself being distracted by the clips ( i haven’t watched gravity yet. forgive me it looked too cool) and the audio being played (sorryyyyy) and I had to really force myself to pay attention to what you were trying to say. Still a very strong message as you focused on the lack of editing techniques as well as combination of cinematography and mis en scene to further exemplify meaning and mood in the story. Same with Les Invasions Barbares I really liked the opening visuals of the film, as the one long shot really added to the Realism factor. The visuals were very well placed and it truly does add to your narrative! Great job!
I enjoyed what you used to compare the movies. In looking at both those films, the aspect of realism is what truly drives the emotion of the audience in the movie in my opinion. It was a key point in both movies that you narrowed down and added specificity to. The film language was definitely appropriate to support your claim, especially when discussing the mis en scene and the portrayal of the protagonist's convalescence. However, what really helped you out was using the film language CORRECTLY. It supported your claim about the tone of the narrative, which made it not just be a cool point but a concrete detail to support your thesis. Despite your great points, your delivery could have been a little better. Now I am a big stutterer when I'm being recorded, so I get it, but if you just work on that presentation, it will be even better than it already is. Overall, Fantastic job ugly.
